WBHM's weekly program schedule.
C. W. GLUCK: Telemaco
Gluck was among the most influential composers in the history of opera, but discussions of his historic impact often overshadow the sheer beauty of his music. This opera is something of a rarity, but Gluck thought highly enough of its music to resurrect some of the score's finest numbers for use in both of his popular Iphigenie operas. (airs Jan. 28 at 7p.m.)

Each Wednesday we hear an update on political happenings in Birmingham and Jefferson County from the Second Front's Kyle Whitmire.
Residents along the north side of Birmingham are digging out after a line of storms rumbled across the state early Monday morning. A tornado killed at least two people in Jefferson County. And as WBHM’s Andrew Yeager reports, the damage is a reminder of the killer tornados which struck the state just last spring.
The Birmingham marketplace is connected by people who have to grapple with numbers and projections and spin. We try and slice through the psychobabble that can be business news with our weekly segment featuring the editor of the Birmingham Business Journal.
Alabama is chock full of big news stories these days. From the April 27th tornadoes to the gambling corruption trials, the immigration law, and Jefferson County's bankruptcy. It's a lot for journalists to keep up with and a lot of great materials for columnists like the The Birmingham News' John Archibald. He discusses the city, county and state politics in forums large and small. Instead of being unplugged as he is in the newspaper, we offer him a bullhorn. Sort of.
In a national ranking on charter schools, Alabama did not even come in last. That's because the state is one of only nine that doesn't have charter schools, but that could change, and soon. Dan Carsen has more for the Southern Education Desk at WBHM:
